10 Day you Challenge Day Two: Two Songs

Day 2: Two Songs

I love music so this one is really hard for me! I can remember as a child my mom working nights and when she would leave Dad would get out his records and spend hours with the TV off and lights low listening to his music.  Often times I would find myself standing on his feet as we danced around the dinning room in the house that we lived at in Illinois.  When I think music, those are the types of memories I have.  I place a song to almost every important event in my life.

Send in the Clowns:  Is a song of regret from the musical A Little Night Music.  Sung by a woman who realizes then man that she is in love with has married another woman.  It's a song with self anger, and a lot of questions she asks herself.

Isn't it rich? Are we a pair? Me here at last on the ground,

You in mid-air. Send in the clowns.

Isn't it bliss? Don't you approve?
One who keeps tearing around,
One who can't move.
Where are the clowns?
Send in the clowns.

Just when I'd stopped opening doors,
Finally knowing the one that I wanted was yours,
Making my entrance again with my usual flair,
Sure of my lines,
No one is there.

Don't you love farce?
My fault I fear.
I thought that you'd want what I want.
Sorry, my dear.
But where are the clowns?
Quick, send in the clowns.
Don't bother, they're here.

Isn't it rich? Isn't it queer,
Losing my timing this late
In my career?
And where are the clowns?
There ought to be clowns.
Well, maybe next year.

Clowns throughout history were always sent in as a distraction, at the circus when there was an accident they sent out the clowns to get everyones attention off the matters at hand so that it could be cleaned up and disposed of so that the show could go on.  Clowns are also seen as "fools" and or foolish.  See once you start thinking about this song it's pretty deep!!

There have been many moments in my life when I have thought to myself  just "send in the clowns".  Send in the distraction so no one see's ME!   Only to realize like the singer did in the song... the the clown (me) was already there.

I can't come up with another ONE song... I have been sitting here thinking, and I can't do it!  The first tape (yes I bought a cassette tape) was the Weezer Blue Album.   Since then  I have purchased it on two tapes, 4 Cd's and now have it downloaded on iTunes.  Now WHY did I buy it so many times? I listened to it so many times over the years I wore each of them out.  I LOVE IT!! I was lucky enough to see them in concert last summer, it was amazing! I have been in love with those guys since 1995.  Some of their other Cd's weren't has good .. but that one is a all time classic!  I listen to it at least once a week still!

  1. I love "Send in the Clowns". My momma used to sing it to me at night before bed...took me until adulthood to realize the depth and meaning to that song. And you're not alone in being a clown ;-) Love ya!
