10 Day you Challenge: Day Three Films

Day 3: Three Films

Empire Records: A total cult classic, and not a movie that one can just recommend to others with the expectations that they will love it.  Made around 1995 it follows a group of teenagers/young adults that work and run a record store on one crazy exceptional day.  I LOVE IT! Total reminder of what life in the 1990's was all about.  I love this movie so much that when Daniel and I took a tour in 2005 when we were in Wilmington, SC doing a movie tour (95% about Dawson's creek) the tour guide walked up to a building and I looked at Daniel and said "THAT is the building that they filmed Empire Records at", and I was right! It was the outside of the store!! The tour  guide was a little shocked because it wasn't something that people recognized on the tour!  I had no idea that the movie had been filmed there after that he showed me more sites that had to do with the movie it was awesome!!

The American President:  Comedy-drama about a widowed US president and a lobbyist who fall in love. It's all aboveboard, but "politics is perception" .  I love this movie! When I am sick or have that pull to watch something romantic this is what I watch.  I love Annette Bening, and Michael Douglas.  I love the characters they play in the movie, I could watch this movie all day every day.

Newsies: When I was first talked into watching this movie I did NOT want to watch it.  I was at my cousins house in Ohio and the girl across the street LOVED this movie and informed me that I had to watch it.  That night as a pre-teen I fell in love with Christian Bale.  It is a musical based on the true story of the paper boy strike of 1899 in NYC.  I know all the songs by heart, and it is another cult classic that I love and hold dear to my heart.

10 Day you Challenge Day Two: Two Songs

Day 2: Two Songs

I love music so this one is really hard for me! I can remember as a child my mom working nights and when she would leave Dad would get out his records and spend hours with the TV off and lights low listening to his music.  Often times I would find myself standing on his feet as we danced around the dinning room in the house that we lived at in Illinois.  When I think music, those are the types of memories I have.  I place a song to almost every important event in my life.

Send in the Clowns:  Is a song of regret from the musical A Little Night Music.  Sung by a woman who realizes then man that she is in love with has married another woman.  It's a song with self anger, and a lot of questions she asks herself.

Isn't it rich? Are we a pair? Me here at last on the ground,

You in mid-air. Send in the clowns.

Isn't it bliss? Don't you approve?
One who keeps tearing around,
One who can't move.
Where are the clowns?
Send in the clowns.

Just when I'd stopped opening doors,
Finally knowing the one that I wanted was yours,
Making my entrance again with my usual flair,
Sure of my lines,
No one is there.

Don't you love farce?
My fault I fear.
I thought that you'd want what I want.
Sorry, my dear.
But where are the clowns?
Quick, send in the clowns.
Don't bother, they're here.

Isn't it rich? Isn't it queer,
Losing my timing this late
In my career?
And where are the clowns?
There ought to be clowns.
Well, maybe next year.

Clowns throughout history were always sent in as a distraction, at the circus when there was an accident they sent out the clowns to get everyones attention off the matters at hand so that it could be cleaned up and disposed of so that the show could go on.  Clowns are also seen as "fools" and or foolish.  See once you start thinking about this song it's pretty deep!!

There have been many moments in my life when I have thought to myself  just "send in the clowns".  Send in the distraction so no one see's ME!   Only to realize like the singer did in the song... the the clown (me) was already there.

I can't come up with another ONE song... I have been sitting here thinking, and I can't do it!  The first tape (yes I bought a cassette tape) was the Weezer Blue Album.   Since then  I have purchased it on two tapes, 4 Cd's and now have it downloaded on iTunes.  Now WHY did I buy it so many times? I listened to it so many times over the years I wore each of them out.  I LOVE IT!! I was lucky enough to see them in concert last summer, it was amazing! I have been in love with those guys since 1995.  Some of their other Cd's weren't has good .. but that one is a all time classic!  I listen to it at least once a week still!

Cars...

I dislike driving!  If you know me well and have been around long enough to hear me tell a story  it has prob had something to do with driving.  Spring break my senior year in HS, I lost a good friend in a car accident.   To this day, that is one of the worst weeks of my life.

After that, I was scared to death to drive I was 18 and in my second semester of college when I was forced to get my drivers license after my parents who had been taking me to college daily put their foot down and made me.  I reluctantly took my drivers test, failing it the first time being told by the tester  "You are the worst driver I have ever seen and I would feel like I am dangering society if I passed you".  I returned two weeks later and aced my test with a handful of others that had tested the first time the same day I did and received the same speech.

I am a back seat driver, I am the girl that gets car sick if you take a turn to fast, I am that girl with the foot that is always in the passenger seat hitting the break pedal.  I can't help it, there are a few people that I can ride with and it not bother me, but usually I am the first one to offer to drive.

Two funny stories about me driving!

2001 when I was in college mom and dad had a huge blue Mini van.  They were working on me driving so in the morning I would drive to IUS, with dad and my brothers.  So dad doing a great job instructing me on how to drive asked me while I was going 65 on the highway to put the car in Overdrive.  SO doing exactly as I am told.. while not slowing down I shift the car OVER drive, which happens to be PARK.  So instantly the van start's bouncing, and making horrible noises.  My dad cussing, yells at me to pull over, and me being the safe driver I am informed him that there was NO place for me to pull off to.  The wheel gets jerked out of my hand he pulls the van over into the emergency lane.. I will end this story here, its cleaner that way!!

2005 Daniel and I go on vacation to the Outer Banks, NC.  We are on this stretch of road two lanes and there are sand dunes on both sides for MILES, I am talking 30-40 miles. There are cars pulled off into the sand on both sides where people have parked and climbed over the sand hills to go to the beach.  So Daniel and I decided that we wanted to pull over so that we could walk on over and see the water.  So I find spot, and pull over into the sand doing about 45ish.  I have never pulled over into sand before, and wasn't expecting the sand cloud that POOF'd up as I hit the sand .. nor was I expecting the car to dig into the sand as it did.  Daniel actually yelled at me as this happened.  We get out of the car, which was really hard to do .. since the car was buried in sand.  Somehow because ONLY one of my story's could end this way.  Two Wrestlers on the way to the gym happened to pass us .. pulled over and between the two of them picked (YES PICKED) our car up with their bare hands .. and placed it back on the road.  Telling us they would take no money, and that we needed to continue to do God's work, as they had done for us.

So this brings us to 2011, and Wednesday.  Daniel calls me after work and tells me he is on his way home.  So I start dinner and start getting ready for work.  About 10 minutes later Daniel calls me back and tells me he was in a automobile accident about 2 blocks from our house.  I will post more on this later!!  He is home and well now, on pain med's and muscle relaxers a few days off from work and he should be back to normal .. our poor car might be another story!  Did I mention last week Daniel and I hit a deer in the other car??
